Visiting the chiropractor is a great way to make sure you are getting and staying healthy. One
of the first and most important steps on your track to better health is to start visiting your doctor of chiropractic. However, there is even more that you can do in order to get the most out of your visits. Here are some tips for you to get the most out of your chiropractic care.
- Be Consistent
Healing is a process. It can take some time for your body and your nervous system to heal. You need to remember that any damage you have done to your spine or your nervous system, didn’t happen overnight, it likely took a lot of time for this type of damage to occur. With this in mind, you need to be ready and willing to be consistent with your care. You likely won’t reverse years of damage with a single adjustment. You need to be consistent, show up to your appointments and follow the care plan put in place by your doctor.
- Keep Proper Posture in Mind
One of the worst things you can do for your spine, is to sit at your desk all day with bad posture. Unfortunately, there are so many people today who are stuck in a chair at a desk all day long. When sitting at your desk remember the “90/90 Rule.” Keep your elbows bent at 90 degrees, and your knees bent at 90 degrees. Sit up straight and plant your feet on the floor directly underneath your knees. Try to keep your computer monitor at or above eye level to keep your neck in line.
- Drink Plenty of Water
Water is one of the best things you can put in your body. A great rule of thumb is to try to drink half of your body weight in ounces every day. For example, if you are 140 pounds, you should be drinking at least 70 ounces of water every day.
- Don’t Forget to Eat Healthy
When you are nourishing your body with healthy foods, you are giving your body the nutrients it needs to work in the way it is supposed to. This can go a long way in helping your body and your nervous system function in the way it should be. If you want to maintain good overall health, you need to be eating properly.
- Exercise
Exercise daily in order to keep yourself healthy and to maintain flexibility, strength and endurance. Even if you are only walking 30 minutes a day, it will go a long way in keeping your body healthy, keeping your spine and your core strong and helping your maintain flexibility. If you have any concerns about how much exercise you can handle, make sure to talk with your chiropractor first before you start a new exercise program.
Keep these tips in mind. If you really put some effort into receiving care, are diligent about making your appointments and take care of yourself in between your appointments, you truly can get the most out of your chiropractic care regimen.
