What To Expect/First Visit

What Should You Expect on Your First Experience With Us?

expect1

At our chiropractic care center our examination (Discovery) procedures are geared toward detection and correction of the Vertebral Subluxation. There are a couple of things that you should expect when you have a first visit at our clinic.

The first part of this Initial Discovery will involve posture analysis. Posture is a window into the health of your nervous system. The doctor will explain how subluxations affect posture and the importance of a biomechanically stable spine. Bilateral weight-scales will measure if there are any spinal imbalances, objectively.

The second part of the Discovery consists of a thorough spinal and nervous chiropractic care centersystem exam which includes “Palpation”. Palpation essentially is checking your spine by hand. With this exam the doctor can feel areas of your spine that may be involved with subluxations problems. Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone can also be examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxations.

expect3The third part of the Discovery may include X-rays. There are many reasons why we would not take x-rays on certain patients including pregnancy, young children, recent usable spinal x-rays and some other situations. Aside from these situations, x-rays are a common part of the examination process when looking for vertebral subluxations. X-rays give us important information including the position of the spinal bones, and the quality of the spine and safety of adjusting it. X-rays also tell us the relative length of time subluxations may have been involved in your spine. Commonly, most patients receive four spinal x-rays at the beginning of care.

With this important information we can make a more accurate determination of the type of adjustments your spine needs as well as the ongoing frequency of your care. Your x-rays will be expect4explained to you in detail at your Empowerment Session. You will be scheduled for your Empowerment Session within a day of your initial visit. You will receive your first life-changing adjustment at this time. This visit is your most important visit and we encourage you to bring your spouse or loved ones. It is at these visits t hat we will give you a care plan and go over any special instructions you will need to obtain the best and fastest possible results. We have set aside specific times for these visits so as not to interfere with regular patient care hours. It is our philosophy to educate you and al low you to make your own health care decisions.

Our Chiropractic Care utilizes the most modern chiropractic procedures andequipment available. We consider subluxations to be a serious threat to the quality and quantity of your health and that of your family. Relief Care, Thumbs Up to Relief

Many people go to a chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first phase of care, the main goal is to reduce your symptoms. Sometimes this will require daily visits, or two to three visits per week for a time.

Most people are under the assumption that if they don’t feel any pain that there is nothing wrong with them – that they are healthy. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. In fact, pain and other symptoms frequently only appear after a disease or other condition has become advanced.

For example, consider a cavity in your tooth. Does it hurt when it first develops or only after it has become serious? How about heart disease? Regardless of whether you are talking about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stress or problems with the spine, pain is usually the last thing to appear. When you begin chiropractic care, pain is also the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains.

Teaming Up for Optimal Health

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a persons care. If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone.

During the correction / restorative phase of your care, you will not have to receive adjustments as often as you did during the first phase of care and, depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches either at the center or at home to help accelerate your healing.

Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.

Maintenance is Key to Healthy Living

Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can help ensure that your physical problems do not return, and keep your body in optimal condition. Just like continuing an exercise program and eating well in order to sustain the benefits of exercise and proper diet, it is necessary to continue chiropractic care to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system.

When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you avoid many of the aches and pains that so many people suffer through, your joints will last longer and you will be able to engage in more of the activities you love.
